Anne

My name is Anne Hudson. I am a Dog Behavior Consultant that promotes positive reinforcement, operant conditioning training and gentle handling.

In addition, I am one of the founding members of Canine Outreach, a Fayette County, GA based therapy dog organization whose caring members and canines visit nursing homes, hospitals, hospices and schools. I am also a retired member of Therapy Dogs, Inc, an international therapy dog organization. I was a founding member of Association of Pet Dog Training(APDT) and also the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants(IAABC).

We know that an educated puppy is likely to grow up to be a good canine citizen and a joy to his family. He is easier for veterinary staff to handle and more likely to be a patient into his geriatric years.

The latest studies in animal behavior show that early education is the key to producing well-adjusted pets with sound temperaments. FunPups instruction is designed to build the confidence of young dogs and teach them a few basic obedience commands, socialization skills, bite inhibition, and manners in a positive, gentle manner (we suggest 10-12 weeks as the very best time to begin training).

Funpups' instruction provides dog owners with sound, common-sense advice on managing typical behavior problems. By socializing pups to a wide variety of people, animals, and environments at a young age, owners avoid the formation of fears that are the basis for some of the most troublesome behaviors.

Services offered by FunPups are private in-your-home instruction and private Behavior Consultations.

About Puppies

mary alice Many dogs are ill prepared to meet the vigorous demands of domestic life. We bring dogs into our homes and expect them to fit into our lives without giving any consideration to the fact that they are not humans and therefore are not naturally equipped to fit into human life.

Therefore, we as owners, need to help them adjust easily by socializing them. The whole point of socialization training is to mold the development of the dog's personality so that it is best suited to the owner's particular lifestyle: to accentuate the good qualities and to modify the bad ones.

Did you know that there is a window of just a few weeks (ages 6 weeks to 13 weeks) that a puppy can successfully be socialized with strangers and other dogs outside our homes? And that if a dog is under socialized as a puppy, it is likely to develop a number of behavior problems such as shyness, fearfulness, and/or fighting with other dogs? Sometimes problems such as separation anxiety can arise when dogs are over-socialized with their owners. However, a puppy cannot be over-socialized with other puppies or dogs.

Dogs go through an adolescent stage usually beginning at five months and lasting from a few months to a couple of years, depending on the breed. This is a time where even good temperaments can begin to unravel without good social skills. Crucial to making it successfully through this stage is a good puppy class and/or much socialization with other dogs, strangers, noises, and new experiences.
