The IAABC is a professional association for the field of animal behavior consulting. The association's members meet rigorous standards for education and training and are held to the highest ethical standards of the profession. The IAABC facilitates research, theory development and education. It develops standards for education and training, professional ethics, and the clinical practice of animal behavior consulting. The IAABC's mission is to assist companion animals and educate their humans to interrupt the inappropriate cycle of punishment, rejection and euthanasia of animals with resolvable behavior problems. Towards that end, IAABC animal behavior consultants will rely primarily on reward-based methodologies instead of punishment for behavior modification and work to minimize the use of aversive stimuli and maximize the effective use of reinforcers when teaching performance skills or skills that can be utilized to modify problematic scenarios. IAABC recognizes that any training tool can be misused, and the higher responsibility of members is to continuously investigate and learn to utilize tools, techniques and methodologies in ways that are designed to protect the well-being of animals as well as effectively control, modify or eliminate undesirable behavior. Some of the behaviors I address in my practice are housetraining, jumping, digging, chewing, destructiveness in general, fear, separation anxiety, and aggression. My methods follow those of the IAABC. I offer private behavior consultations for those owners who are encountering behavior problems with their dogs.
