FunPups Classes

A dog’s mental soundness and physical health are both important to successful integration into a human family.

Problems are much easier to prevent than to cure. A dog’s learning abilities are greatest in the first few months of life, and bite inhibition, one of the most important things any dog can learn, must be taught by 18 weeks of age to be effective. Good behavior is best taught before bad habits form, early in your dog’s life.

Like veterinary medicine, knowledge of dog behavior is constantly expanding and training methods evolve to embrace this new understanding. Progressive trainers have substituted positive reinforcement for the old punishment-oriented methods, especially when dealing with young dogs. At FunPups we teach clicker training which, is the most positive of all training methods.

Socialization is always a part of FunPups classes and some exercises and play times will be done off leash. Fun is important to learning so games are a part of this process.

Clicker Training is an easy-to-learn and effective technique for communicating with our dogs. While used for years with marine mammals, research animals, and in a variety of commercial projects, clicker training has only recently taken the dog world by storm.

Clicker Training is easy to learn and, with practice and timing, is a powerful and effective training method from early puppy-hood through senior years. Your dog will learn to problem-solve with clicker training and both human and dog will have fun while learning. Clickers are provided free with training as well as a training book and treats.

Pet Manners Classes:

This is a class for young or older dogs that have two sets of shots and are ages 12 weeks and up. It is a basic obedience type class with emphasis on how to incorporate the things you learn in class with everyday life with emphasis on building a better relationship with your dog.

This is a time when dogs are either young puppies or are possibly going through an adolescent phase. Behavior problems that dogs usually encounter during this time are addressed. We will teach you handling exercises, discuss Bite Inhibition, Housetraining, Jumping, Chewing, Digging, etc. The manners exercises your dog will learn are Sit, Stand, Down, Come, a Really Reliable Recall, Stay, Paying Attention, Heeling/Walking on a Loose Leash, lessons in Self Control and other appropriate exercises. We will teach you how to make these part of your life at home and in other surroundings. Your dog will learn good house manners, polite greetings, and other mannerly jobs. Vaccination records are required.

The Pet Manners Class meets for six consecutive weeks.

  • Class supplies are included.

  • Classes are small and are scheduled by instructor and will have a required minimum number of dogs/handlers as well as a maximum number per instructor. All classes include off leash playtime when possible.

Behavior problems are the number one cause of death in dogs. Animals with issues are caught up in a cycle of inappropriate punishment, rejection and euthanasia during their time of need.

Behavior solutions are about helping you (and your family) understand your dog better, identifying the behaviors that are causing stress in your home and implementing effective but practical solutions that fit your family and your life. After all, the greatest solutions in the world will never work if you can't implement and maintain it in your home.

If you have concerns about your dog and his/her behavior around adults, children, or other animals or if you would just like to better understand your dog's behavior and how he communicates, FunPups can help!

Don’t leave the mental or physical welfare of your dog in the hands of an uneducated or uncertified trainer. You and your dog need and deserve more. Get an educated and certified professional.
